“Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I will not sin against God. …Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:11 & 105 NIV
The verses above are just two from the longest chapter in the Bible, which is full of words of wisdom and insight that can successfully guide us through life. It helps us gain a better understanding of ourself, others and God when we’re able to move them from being just memorable words we simply store in our minds, to life-changing wisdom we can follow and apply to our lives.
God’s Word can not only safely guide us through the mine-fields of life, it can also open the door to having a rich relationship with God, our heavenly Father, Jesus, his son, and the Holy Spirit, our personal helper who I’ve grown to see as life’s true, “Personal Life Coach”.
His Word can instill hope by explaining how we had no say in being born into this world with a nature that has a natural bent toward sin, the dark side of life (Galatians 5:19-21); but we ARE able to choose to be born again like Jesus described in John 3:1-21, so we can have a new nature with a natural bent that fights against sin, so we can live life in God’s life-giving light, which helps us overcome the life-draining darkness of our sin nature.
But it only starts there. John 1:12 NLT, puts it this way: “To all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” Just think—He gave us the right to become His children! And the Bible tells us how we can, so when it’s our turn to appear before the gates of Heaven, we too can hear the words, “Well done good and faithful servant”, all because we moved His Word from our head to our heart.
