Looking for a stabilizer in a rocky world?

There’s a bit of scripture in the third chapter of II Timothy that has always intrigued me. Whatever version you use it goes something like this, “During end times… people will be learning (knowledge will increase) but they will never come to know the truth.” That used to puzzle me, but not anymore.

Some interpret that to mean only spiritual truth, others see it as referring only to head knowledge. I’ve come to see it as both.

Can you identify with what I’m about to describe?  Never before has mankind had such an amazing amount of knowledge, literally at our fingertips.  Yet we widely seem at a loss on knowing what the truth is in every area of life:  in our sciences, our educational system, our media, our government, organizations we affiliate or identify with, our churches, about the Bible, our nation’s history and the Constitution, in our businesses, agencies and institutions. You might even be able to name more!

Who and what can you trust?

Truth and facts have become so spun, twisted and distorted with the preconceived ideas and self-serving agendas with each reporting and telling, it’s become pretty tough for a person to actually know what’s true… what’s not… what’s speculation and what’s factual!  People have become so confused, many have taken desperate measures to escape the insanity of it all; they have actually tuned out and stopped listening to all news and commentary outlets… have rejected politics and now refuse to vote for anyone… and-or have given up on the church!

People crave the stability of truth… but sadly are not finding it in today’s world.  It’s just like the verse said, “Knowledge has increased… but people are not coming to know the truth”.

But you know… the worse things get the more I see and understand the importance of God and the Bible! They are both our anchor into something real, and our stabilizers in a pretty rocky world!

If we place our hope in people, places, or things, we will invariably find they’re all unreliable and subject to change at the whim of others, gradually or suddenly. But thankfully that’s not so with God and His Word!  There are three meaningful verses people through the centuries have tested, tried and discovered helps cut through life’s confusions, for they’re solid truths they can trust and build their lives on.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  While walking this earth, Jesus himself also clearly told us, “I am the way, the Truth and the Life….”

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Isn’t that great!  Even in the midst of a world that no longer makes sense, we can have hope and stability.

P.S.  Here are the references for those who would like to read those scriptures for yourself:  Hebrews 13:8, John 14:6, 2 Timothy 3:16-17
